Radcliffe runners take annual bow
1:42pm Wednesday 17th March 2010
ATHLETICS: Radcliffe AC members were rewarded for their efforts during the season when the club held its annual presentation.
President Terry Nortley and chairman Mark Emmett handed out individual trophies at Radcliffe Cricket Club before announcing the special prizes for the year.
Yasmin Parapia picked up two trophies, the Nellie Halstead Cup, named after the former local Olympian and the VLA Event award for completing the most league races throughout the year. George Critchley also took two prizes, the VLA Events award for top man and the most improved male runner of the season prize. Vet 60 Eileen Royle was most improved woman.
The Norman Schofield Trophy for the V45 road champion went to Tony Holt and the overall cross- country champions were named as Donna Cartwright and vet-50 Adrian Harris, who both had outstanding seasons. The President’s Shield, for work within the club, went to the new treasurer Iain Harris and the Terry Nortley Trophy was presented to Anna Lupton for her many wins throughout the year.
It had been a tiring but rewarding day for Lupton, who had driven to Birmingham to take part in the Inter Counties Cross Country Championships where she represented Greater Manchester. She finished a creditable 62nd out of hundreds of competitors.
On the roads the following day Donna Cartwright and Steve Hamer blew the cobwebs away in the six-mile Roddlesworth Roller, an undulating course from Abbey Village. Cartwright finished sixth woman in 42mins 48secs with Hamer (V50) less than a minute behind in 43.34.
