Fishpool crowned Section A winners

6:40pm Wednesday 17th March 2010

SNOOKER: Fishpool secured the championship of the Irwell Street Metals Section A with victory at Radcliffe Central A and had Simon Fitzsimmons to thank for his final- frame win which included an unfinished break of 70 and ensured his team got the aggregate victory.

Despite losing their first match of the season, Tottington A lifted the championship of The Bury Bed & Pine Section C.

They were well beaten in their re-arranged away fixture at second-place Salisbury B.

C Neiland got the visitors off to a good start with victory in the first frame but narrow wins by E Rose and D Tracey, followed by more convincing wins from Dan Tracy and J Smith gave the home side a 4-1 lead.

Chris Graham managed a narrow two-chalk victory for the visitors in the final frame but, with a substantial aggregate lead, Salisbury took the spoils by 6-2.

The defeat for Tottington A came just 24 hours after they had beaten their B team by a healthy 7-2.

Radcliffe Central B did their chances of promotion no harm at all with a 7-2 victory at Salisbury B and, with just one match of the season remaining, they trail the Duck Club side by just five points.

The final week’s fixtures in the section A will see nerves jangling for six of the nine clubs in the league.

Only six points separate fourth-place Elton Lib D from their B team who are in equal bottom spot with the resurgent Tottington D .

The top of the Cornucopia Section B is equally enthralling with Whitefield B just three points ahead of both Radcliffe D and Buchanans A. Could the fixture list have created a more mouth watering final week’s fixture than the Ramsbottom’s home tie against Whitefield B?

The league has a new website, log on to www.bdosl.x10 hosting.com for the latest information.
