RADCLIFFE’S Matthew Partington was among the runs and the wickets but was unable to prevent England losing their first One Day International against Pakistan in the historic first Physical Disabilities international series in Dubai.

The 22-year-old right-handed batsman, who featured in the two Twenty20 international defeats at the weekend, took 1-49 in his eight overs as Pakistan reached an imposing 285-5 at the Global Cricket Academy on Tuesday, then hit a brisk 12 in 18 balls in England’s fruitless run chase.

Partington was the fifth wicket to fall as England were restricted to just 206-6 in their 40 overs, losing the first of the three-match ODI series – the first of its kind to be sanctioned by the respective governing bodies – by 79 runs.

Partington scored six and 20 as England lost the two T20 internationals by 14 runs and 20 runs, respectively, and took a wicket in each.

The remaining games in the ODI series will be played at the Global Cricket Academy tomorrow (Friday) and Sunday.

Partington plays in constant pain as a result of a serious pelvic disease he suffered as a baby. Despite initial fears he may never walk again, he went on to compete alongside able-bodied cricketers at Bury Cricket Club before moving to East Lancs Paper Mill.
