MUHAMMAD Danish must now be hot favourite to win his second consecutive National Schoolboys Boxing title after wiping the floor with former champion Jack Dickinson.

Both Danish, who fights out of Bury Amateur Boxing Club, and Dickinson won titles at different weights last year, so the contest looked too tight to call when they stepped into the ring for their National Schoolboys quarter- final bout in Gorton.

But after a drawn opening round, Danish stepped up the pressure and Dickinson wilted.

The Bury-based fighter eventually won the Class Two (for boys born in 1998) 42-44kilo bout 18-2 on points, forcing his previously unbeaten Birltley Boys opponent to take a standing count in a brutal third round.

He will now face an opponent from either Liverpool or Hull in the semi-finals in Gorton this weekend.

Bury ABC’s other quarter finalist, Ibrahim Nadim, lost an extremely tight contest against Joe McKenzie, also of Birtley Boys, in the Class One (for boys born in 1999) 32-34k division.

Nadim lost by one point – 21-20 – coming back strongly from 16-10 down after the second round.
